Giant vegetable season is back!

Who says it’s impossible to grow nice produce in the muskeg around Fort Nelson? Once again, the Fort Nelson News office has been the lucky recipient of abnormally large (and yummy) vegetables. So far this year we have received large cabbages, large turnips, and large zucchini. They have since been turned into delicious stir-fries, ratatouilles, and stews.
The large turnips above were grown by Parker Hansen and his grandma, Norma. Parker helped grow the biggest one, and says they did nothing special to make the turnips grow so large in Norma’s garden on Caribou Way. Parker proudly brought the turnips into the news office on October 3rd, the same day he picked them.
The zucchini below was brought to us by Eric Ashdown, who grew it in his garden. It measured 24” tall and weighed over 15 pounds.  The Fort Nelson News is interested in seeing the produce you have grown this year. Send us your pictures to
ads@fnnews.ca or stop by the news office.
