Harper’s comments at G-8 Conference

Prime Minister Stephen Harper delivered the following remarks at the conclusion of the G-8 Lough Erne Summit in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland :
“Once again, let me thank Prime Minister Cameron, and the people of Northern Ireland for their hospitality.
“We reiterated our commitment to co-ordinated efforts to address world economic risks and ensure ongoing prosperity.
“Leaders agreed on coordinated action on what has been called the 3Ts agenda – advancing trade, ensuring tax compliance and promoting greater transparency in the corporate and government sectors.
“We had frank and constructive exchanges on the deteriorating situation in Syria.
“I reiterated Canada’s position that we want to see a democratic government that represents the entire population of that country.
“We also discussed the devastating humanitarian situation in Syria and neighbouring countries.
“Canada has announced a significant new contribution to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by this crisis.
“I also took the opportunity to underscore Canada’s continued grave concerns with international political and security challenges, particularly those in Iran and North Korea.”
