$100,000 theft on Sierra YoYo worksite

Police are seeking the assistance of both industry and the general public in relation to a theft from a work site on the Sierra YoYo Desan Road. On Friday June 7th at 12:55 p.m. police received a complaint from Cancen Oil Processors reporting that a 10X24 ft white container with an assortment of tools, oil, and electrical generating systems inside as well as a 30 ft skid mounted trailer, in total valued at approximately $100,000 had been stolen from their work site located at KM127.5  of the SYD. Police were advised the site has been closed for approximately a year and a half and the last time it was checked was over three months ago at which time everything on site was still accounted for.
Lecture made him sleepy
Last Wednesday evening at 6:32 p.m. police received a complaint from Town Square advising they were currently in the process of conducting a lecture when a very intoxicated fellow in a red ball cap showed up.
Police attended the Town Square where they located the very intoxicated fellow laying on the ground outside in such a state he could not get up without the assistance of both police officers. Police arrested the 25–year-old Fort Nelson man and hustled him off to jail where he was lodged for the remainder of the night before being released the next morning without charge.
Shampooing the knuckle duster?
A shoplifter with a surprise, this past Thursday afternoon at 1:45 p.m. police were summoned to Overwaitea Foods when it was reported they had apprehended a female shoplifter attempting to leave the store without paying for some hair care products.

Police attended to Overwaitea where they arrested the 20-year Fort Nelson woman for Theft Under $5,000.While checking the  woman’s pockets prior to transporting her to the police office one of the police officers located a rather nasty looking set of brass knuckles. Police returned the accused to the police office where she was processed and later released to appear in court at a later date to answer theft and possession of a prohibited weapon related charges.
Saturday evening at 6:05 p.m. police were summoned to Overwaitea Foods when it was reported Loss Prevention Officers had detained a male and female for shoplifting. Police attended to Overwaitea and were advised an 18-year-old female and 22- year-ld male had been detained after they were observed concealing 2 DVD’s in their child’s stroller and leaving the store without paying for the items. Both Fort Nelson residents were arrested by police for Theft Under $5,000.00 and released on their Promise to Appear in court on September 9th to answer a charge of theft.
Lost her wheels
Several hours later at 11:05 p.m. police removed an impaired driver from the road after stopping a Black Kia Rio along Simpson Trail. While speaking with the 50-year-old female driver police detected the odor of liquor within the vehicle asking the driver if she had been drinking. The driver admitted she had been drinking a short time before driving. Police subsequently obtained a roadside breath sample from the driver into an approved roadside screening device which resulted in a warning indication. As a result police impounded the vehicle and issued the driver with a 3 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition from driving.
They say that alcohol is the solution to all life’s problems?
Well let’s see, 1 guess that would be dependent on whether your consuming it or seizing it? This past Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. while police were keeping an eye on Hwy #97 North they happened upon a Blue 2012 Chrysier 200 traveling northbound at KM 545. Police stopped the vehicle and while speaking with the three females inside the vehicle learned they were returning to Lower Post from Fort Nelson. While speaking with the vehicle’s occupants police detected the odor of liquor emanating from within the vehicle. When asked about this all three women denied there was any liquor in the vehicle or that they had been drinking. This answer did not sit well with police spotting the open cooler can sitting in the back seat area. Police asked the 3 women if there was anymore liquor inside the vehicle, the women advised there was no more liquor in the vehicle. Police asked the driver if she would mind popping the trunk so they could have a quick look. Police were somewhat startled when they peered inside the trunk noting it was full of liquor estimated to be worth approximately $500.00. which included a large bottle of “Bubble Gum Vodka”. Police located a further smaller quantity of open liquor concealed in the possession of the vehicles occupants. Police took possession of all the liquor seizing it under the provisions and authorities of Liquor Control and Licensing Act. As the result of this vehicle check and liquor seizure police took the following enforcement action. They charged the 30-year-old female driver from Lower Post with:3 counts of driving contrary to restrictions.  failing to produce a drivers licence.  possession of open liquor in motor vehicle.  12 hour driver’s licence suspension for having alcohol in body with Class 7 driver’s licence.
Furthermore, they charged a 20-year-old female passenger from Fort Nelson with: possession of open liquor in a motor vehicle,  failing to state correct name, being intoxicated in public.They also charged  charged a 28-year-old female passenger from Fort Nelson with:possession of open liquor in a motor vehicle.
Directionless
Early Saturday at 2:30 a.m. police stopped a Red Chevrolet lmpala in Fort Nelson along Highway #97 after the vehicle was observed driving with it’s directional light flashing but not turning anywhere. While speaking with the 25-year-old male driver from Edmonton police noted the driver appeared visibly intoxicated with a strong odor of liquor on his breath. After admitting he had recently been drinking police obtained a roadside breath sample from the driver which resulted in a failure indication. As a result police issued the driver with a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition from driving impounding the  man’s vehicle for 30 days.
A chance to use his legs again
Less than 2 hours later police caught themselves an impaired driver on a quad. While traveling along Dene Etene Road police observed an ATV moving rapidly along the trail alongside Dene Etene Road. When the male operating the ATV looked behind him and noticed the police truck keeping pace with him he rapidly accelerated and took off. After losing sight of the ATV police patrolled around the general area locating the same ATV and operator pulling into a driveway on Dene Etene road. Police pulled into the driveway behind the ATV that was still running and approached the operator who appeared visibly intoxicated with odor of liquor on his breath. Police obtained 2 roadside breath samples from the driver, both resulting in failure indications. As a result police issued the 16-year-old operator with a 90 day Prohibition from Driving impounding the ATV for 30 days before driving the youth home and turning him over to his parents.
A couple of 60 pounders
Impaired driving continues to be a significant public safety issue as police removed yet another impaired driver this past week from local roads. During the early morning hours of Sunday June 9th at 3:00 a.m. police received a report of an erratic driver that was observed speeding up to the stop sign on 46th Street and 50th Avenue North with it’s left signal light on. Instead of turning left the vehicle went straight ahead nearly driving over the curb and straight down into the ditch along the Alaska Highway. Witnesses told police after the near collision they heard the vehicles occupants yelling “Wow, Wow, Wow, let me drive”. Witnesses reported watching as the vehicle occupants switched places before driving off down the street. Police attended to the area quickly locating the 2012 Blue Chrysier 200 driving southbound along highwaywhere they stopped the vehicle in the Woodlands Hotel parking lot. Upon first contact with the female driver police quickly satisfied themselves the female driver was quite intoxicated. This was further confirmed when the 20-year-old Fort Nelson woman told police she had recently consumed “a couple sixty pounders of Vodka”. Police impounded the vehicle, arresting the woman for impaired driving transporting her back to the police office where she provided two breath samples of 300 mgs and 280 mgs rather big numbers
Thieving vandals
Local thieves appear to have been busy over the last week. Police are also looking for one or more of these, in particular the thieves that broke into small White covered Utility Trailer over the weekend belonging to Doici parked in the gravel parking area behind the IDA Drugstore. After prying open the rear doors of the trailer and not finding anything to their particular liking to steal the culprit(s) smashed a number of large porcelain food plates stored in the trailer by throwing them against a concrete retaining wall making a considerable mess.
Boys bike taken
Police are also looking for a boy’s bicycle and the thief who stole it. Police received a complaint Sunday afternoon at 12:15 p.m. from a resident of the 4400 block of Heritage Crescent reporting their son’s Green Haro BMX bicycle had been stolen from their yard sometime overnight.
Honda taken from Sea Can
Also reported stolen over the weekend, a Red White 1995 Honda CRF80 Motorcycle from a locked Sea Can behind Fort Nelson Senior Secondary School. The thief who obviously knew the motorcycle was stored in the container cut through the fence to gain entry to the compound where they then cut the lock off the Sea Can before making off with the motorcycle. The motorcycle had been donated to the highschool automotive program with the students putting in numerous hours of labor and approximately $200.00 in materials to return the motorcycle to running condition.

Sunday afternoon at 5:05 p.m. police were summoned to a local residence when it was reported their was a domestic assault in progress. When police arrived on scene they could clearly hear the shrill screams of a female coming from inside the house. When police entered the house they were advised by witnesses that the suspect had been assaulting the 19-year-old female victim moments before. Police located the 18-year-old suspect advising him he was under arrest for domestic assault. Instead of doing the correct thing and surrendering to police the  man decided to stand his ground and fight resisting police attempts to take him into custody. The result of this error in judgment, police deployed their Pepper Spray giving the accused a healthy dose in the face which quickly brought about his immediate compliance with all further police instructions. The  man was transported to the police office where he was examined by EHS and cleared to be lodged in jail. The  female victim fled the residence apparently uninjured and has advised police she has made the decision not to speak too or cooperate with the police investigation. The 18 year old accused has since been released from custody with conditions to appear in court at a later date to answer charges of domestic assault, obstructing a police officer, mischief under $5,000.00 and possession of a controlled substance (Marijuana).
A warm and comfy place to take a nap
The same day at 5:30 p.m. police were called to the P&T Restaurant when it was reported a male customer had come into the restaurant, sat down at a table and promptly fallen asleep. Police attended the restaurant and quickly determined the 44-year-old Fort Nelson man was intoxicated. After some nudging the intoxicated male woke up disoriented and not sure exactly where he was. Police arrested the male for Public Intoxication transporting him to the police office where he was lodged in jail until he was sober.
