Qwest Helicopter takes Business Category in Bed Race

by Christine Mould
The annual charity bed race hosted by the Fort Nelson Hospital & Healthcare Foundation was another big success this year. A grand total of $25,000 was raised for the Foundation. On Friday, May 24th, 14 teams participated in the 8th annual event with hopes of pushing their way to the winner’s circle. There were six teams racing in the Community at Large category sponsored by Boston Pizza, and eight teams in the Business category sponsored by Qwest Helicopters.
Every year new teams join us for this family event. This year’s newbies included a team from the Airport Way Medical Clinic and two Overwaitea Foods teams, one of which received the Best Decorated Bed Award.
This is an all ages event and we have received continual and growing participation from both the youths and adults in the community.
Fort Nelson’s support never wavers; a big thank-you goes out to Nexen for being our title sponsor for the fourth year in a row. This year’s champions were the “Qwest Kiwis” in the Business category and the “Fort Nelson Fire Fighters Inferno” in the Community at Large category.
The Foundation is proud to host this event every year and would like to thank all the people who contributed to its success.
To all the racers, sponsors, donors, volunteers, and cheering spectators, thank you very much. We look forward to next year’s event and seeing all your smiling faces at the “race track.”
