Mayor Streeper presented Mr. Dwayne Walsh with a Certificate of Commendation from the Governor General of Canada. The award arose from the actions of Mr. Walsh on May 27th, 2010, when he rescued a man who had broken into a camper and had set it on fire. Mr. Walsh was driving by when he noticed smoke coming from a camper at the back of a pickup truck. He opened the door and a large amount of smoke came out. Unable to see inside, he called out for the occupant to come towards his voice. The victim came through the door and dropped a large knife as he ran out. The man had cut his neck before setting the fire. Mr. Walsh dragged him a safe distance away and drove his own vehicle in front of the victim to protect him from any possible explosion.
Mr. Walsh then called for help and waited until responders arrived. The Northern Rockies Regional Municipality applauds Mr. Walsh and truly appreciates his contribution to our community.
