Saturday afternoon at 4:24 p.m. police received a report that small plane had lost its nose wheel assembly while landing at the Fort Nelson Airport. When emergency services arrived at the airport they located the single engine Cessna sitting nose down on the runway with the broken front wheel assembly located approximately 125 metres down the runway from the plane. It was determined the 25-year-old pilot from New Smyrna, FL, who was ferrying the small plane to Alaska was in the process of landing the plane and while slowing down, the front wheel assembly broke off which dropped the nose of the plane onto the runway. The pilot, although slightly shaken up, suffered no injuries and walked away from the plane.
