Man dies in collision at Fort Ware

Mackenzie RCMP and the North District Traffic Analyst continue to investigate the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision at the 93 Kilometer marker of the Finlay Forest Service Road (FSR).
RCMP were called to the rural collision involving a Logging Truck and Pick- Up truck at 12:58 pm on January 7, 2013. Mackenzie Detachment members attended the location as well as Fire Department, BC Ambulance, the BC Regional Coroner and Worksafe BC. Once on scene, Mackenzie RCMP confirmed the driver of the pick- up truck was deceased. Police later confirmed the 43 year old male was originally from Penticton B.C. and was working in the Fort Ware area at the time of the incident.
Preliminary information suggests that the vehicles met on a narrow, single lane, bridge and the pick-up truck collided with a concrete no post then hit the trailer of the logging truck causing significant damage to the passenger compartment of his pick-up. Damage to the logging truck was minimal.
“Investigators advise there is nothing to suggest the incident is a Criminal matter at this time” stated Cst. Lesley Smith, North District Media Relations Officer “The BC Coroner with the assistance of Mackenzie RCMP and the North District Traffic Analyst will continue to investigate this tragic incident”.  Both vehicles have since been removed from the location and therefore the Finlay Forest Service Road is now open for traffic.
