Arsonist struck in the dead of night

Northern Rockies firefighters fought the blaze. It was feared that more trailers might ignite from the ferocious blaze.

“Police, for the second time in less than a week are investigating another very serious incident targeting a residence that police are confident is directly related to illegal drug activity in the community,” Staff Sergeant Tom Roy said. “Early last Monday morning a residence along Cottonwood Road with three persons inside was hit by multiple rounds of gunfire. Police have since arrested the 19 year old Prince George man responsible for the shooting.”
“ Unfortunately the stupidity and violence continued early last Thursday morning at 3:30 a.m. when emergency services received a report a residence in the Villers Trailer Park along Nahanni Drive was on fire.”
Emergency Services were quickly on scene but despite significant efforts could not save the residence which was eventually completely destroyed by fire. Fire and Police investigators were told by one of the two residents of the home that while he was watching television he heard a noise and noticed a flickering light coming from outside. When he looked out the window he discovered the front doorstep was on fire. The 21- year-old man ran to the bedroom and woke his girlfriend up and told her the house was on fire and they had to get out. When both ran to the back door they discovered the back doorstep was also on fire.
Despite fire at both the front and back doors the 2-year-old man and his 20-year-old girlfriend managed to flee the residence uninjured. Both fire and police investigators have determined the fire was intentionally started using some sort of liquid accelerant poured near both entrances to the home. “Due to the very serious nature of both of these incidents the Northern Rockies RCMP are receiving assistance from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and General Investigation Section, both from Fort St. John,” Roy said.
“These two incidents that fortunately are not all that common to Fort Nelson provides us all with a glimpse into the dysfunctional and often violent world of the illegal drug trade and the people who have chosen to make this their lifestyle. Drug Trafficking is a very nasty and dirty business inhabited by some very nasty inconsiderate people who simply because they are too lazy to seek legitimate paying employment have chosen to become drug traffickers to make their living and support their families all the while destroying other peoples families.”
“ Drug Traffickers are simply common criminals who care not one bit about the harm the drugs they sell do to the community or the people they sell them to as long as they are making money.
“As the shooting and arson fire clearly demonstrate, drug traffickers and their minions will resort to just about any level of violence to protect their business. If you have information that would assist the police in putting a drug trafficker out of business and into jail the police would appreciate hearing from you. A little bit of information, a phone call, a text message, a voice mail or a phone call to crimestoppers is all it takes to help the police put a drug trafficker out of business.” Roy concluded.
