Brian Bell Memorial Hockey Tournament

Gasfield Maulers Zander Neville, Devin Loeppky, and Derek Seminchuk defend the net as a Whitehorse Jet player made a flying leap.

Five teams from four Alaska Highway communities took part in the Brian Bell Memorial tournament over the weekend. Fort Nelson Gearheads, Fort Nelson Gasfield Maulers, Watson Lake Wolf Pack, Whitehorse Jets and Blueberry Weekend Warriors duked it out until the final game between the Gasfield Maulers and the Whitehorse Jets on Sunday morning, making it a Yukon win in a 5-1 decision. A good sized crowd were there to cheer on the home team.

The Brian Bell tournament has been held for years and is named after Brian Bell, a promising hockey player who was in a fatal motor vehicle accident in 1991. The Bell family have supported the tournaments throughout the years, bringing Brian’s friends together for the event.
