Obituary – Ruth Ann Morton, 65

February 12th, 1944 – May 15th, 2009

Loving Wife and Mother Beloved Grandmother Ruth was born February 12, 1944 in Lacombe, AB and passed away May 15, 2009, in Fort St. John, BC, after a year long battle with cancer. She is the oldest of six children for Albert and Virginia Gordon. After growing up in Alberta she travelled to southern Alberta to attend nurses training, and met and married Alfred Morton in the early 60’s. Their first child Jim soon arrived and the family headed for northern British Columbia. After spending time at Davis Keys Mine and 442, the family finally settled in Fort Nelson with sons Jim and Patrick. Soon after they had settled their daughters arrive, Marjorie and then Sherri. Ruth was kept busy shuffling four kids around, and tending to family businesses and community activies. Alfred passed away in 1980. Ruth soon began a new chapter of her life. Ruth met Jack Edwards in the early 80’s and welcomed his children Jake and Jessica into the family. Not long after Ellison and Corine were born. Ruth was really busy now caring for all her children and she did it with such ease. She took great pride in her Rural Mail route, and the characters along it and loved to interact with everyone daily. Jack passed away in 2007, and Ruth began her battle with cancer in 2008. Her children stood by her and were able to spend wonderful year spoiling and caring for her, as she deserved. Ruth spent the majority of her spare time enjoying the outdoors. She enjoyed taking pictures of the wildlife and scenery along the Alaska Highway. She also spent several hours gardening, berry picking and doing handicrafts like crocheting, cross-stitching and sewing. Ruth also enjoyed working with animal fur and creating various garments. Ruth soon became a grandmother and cherished all the wonderful moments that came along with it. Dakota; Joseph Ada Aiden; Candice Guy Jr Janyce; Robert Carlee Kole and Rebbecca all have precious moments that they each spent with Grandma Ruth and can tell great stories all the time, about the silly little things that made their grandma smile. Ruth is preceded by her parents Albert and Virginia and brother, Robert, and two husbands Alfred and Jack. Left to mourn the loss of their loving mother are her sons, Jim(Gail) Edson, AB, Patrick(Mary) Nimpo Lake, BC, and her daughters, Marjorie(Guy) Taylor, BC, Sherri(Kevin) Dawson Creek, BC, Ellison(Mike) and Corine Fort Nelson, BC. Ruth is survived by her sister Donna(Joe), and brothers Charlie(Linda), Allan(Janis), and Arthur(Shirley), and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of sympathy they have received during this trying time. At request of the deceased, no services will be held as her wish was to be laid to rest with her parents in Lacombe, AB, by her children.
