December 31st, 1951 – November 26th, 2011

George Phillips longtime resident of Sexsmith, AB and Fort Nelson, BC, passed away at Grande Prairie, AB on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the age of 59 years. George was born in Walford Ontario on December 31, 1951. He left there in his mid teens to search for work out west. It was in Grande Prairie that he found his passion for Sheet metal . George honed his skills by working and hobbying in a variety of industries over the years, some of which were auto mechanics, autobody, roofing, plumbing, and industrial insulation. Other hobbies he enjoyed were camping, fishing and traveling with family and friends. It was in Sexsmith where he met and married his wife of 38 years. They spent the first few years of their life together travelling across Canada but always returning to the Sexsmith area. It was in this area that all of his children were born . George and Cathy went into business together and operated their “partnership” for the rest of his life. In 1989 they bought a quarter section of land in the Teepee Creek area to provide room for their children to grow. His work took him to Fort Nelson in the late 1990’s where he purchased a mobile home and spent the rest of his life commuting between Sexsmith and Fort Nelson. George will be remembered by all who met him as a humble man with an uncanny ability to provide guidance personally and professionally in a way that allowed all to learn and grow and become confident in themselves. George will be sadly missed by wife Cathy, daughters Michelle Whalen and Tina Phillips, sons Mike Phillips and Lawrence Phillips, grandchildren Bailey Whalen, Josh Needham, Austin Needham and Oliver Ward brothers Henry Phillips(Barb), Bob Phillips(Ellen), Harvey Phillips (Rhonda), Jim Phillips, Stan Phillips (Cheryl) sisters Jessie Phillips and Vel Richer (Laurent) and all family members and friends.
