Obituary – Bryan Gordon Ballance, 66

November 29th, 1943 – August 27th, 2010

It is with tremendous sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Bryan Ballance on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010. Bryan leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Susan, and children Pam (Rick) Paterson, Paula (Al) Franks, Carmen (Darren) Webber, Craig (Lindsay) Ballance, Tricia Ballance, Michael Ballance, Kirsten (Kelly) Jasper, and Jill Ballance. Bryan is also mourned by his mother Barbara Petersen, stepfather Kjeld Petersen, stepmother Kathleen Ballance, brother Alan (Maureen) Petersen, sister Marie, brother in-law Myles Bott, brothers Colin (Gail) Ballance, Tim (Corrine) Ballance, Mark Ballance, Richard (Gail), Robert Ballance and sisters Sally (Pergentile) Ballance and Susan (David) Bulloch. Bryan was predeceased by his brother Graham Ballance and father Gordon Ballance. Also remembering Bryan are his many grandchildren: Dallas, Bailey, Ethan, Laurin, Aiden, Rebecca, and Aurora, nieces and nephews and of course so many dear friends and colleagues across Canada that were touched by his love of life. Bryan was born in Edmonton and grew up in Rocky Mountain House. Over the years, he made his home in Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Alberta and Stewart, B.C. before coming back home to Rocky in 2004. Bryan was always a very hard working, fair and principled man who loved to share a ‘dandy’ joke and giggle, and thus endeared himself to all who met him. He always saw the sunny side of life and refused to be distracted by challenges, disappointments or upsets that came his way. In this way he was a role model and earned the respect and admiration of many. When not working in the field, Bryan loved to spend time with family and friends, and found great happiness in fishing trips to the coast, quading in the back country, card games and camping. Bryan’s passing is devastating and he will be missed by all who know him. A memorial service and celebration of Bryan Ballance’s life will be held at the Chapel Of The Rocky Funeral Home on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 at 2:00 PM. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta As an expression of sympathy memorial donation may be made in Bryan’s name to the Alberta Diabetes Society. Rocky Funeral Homes and Sylvan Lake and Crematorium, your Golden Rule Funeral Homes, entrusted with the arrangements. 403-845-2626.
