The Fort Nelson Library has a long tradition of striving to meet the information and recreational reading needs of the community.  Staff are happy to help you find any information you need.
The mandate of the library is to acquire and make available books, periodicals, computers and other information resources which will satisfy the needs of all members of the community to become well informed, understand important issues, cultivate the imagination, promote studies and enjoy leisure.
Library material is selected for interest, information, and enlightenment of all people in the community.
This is a great time to write about the Fort Nelson Library.  October is National Library Month with a theme of Libraries Connect.  Libraries foster connections between people, ideas, communities and information.   Our welcoming space offers a wide variety of resources for the community to use both from within the library and online.  The library houses approximately 38,000 items in a wide variety of formats and patrons have access to much more online and through interlibrary loans.  Reference material like the BC Building Code, the “Northwest Collection” our collection of historical material, current issues of magazines, old issues of the Fort Nelson News and Ancestry.ca are all available for use within the library.  We offer wireless, internet, faxing and photocopying, and scanning to e-mail.  Online databases are accessible to anyone who is a library member.  These include Zinio magazines, auto repair manuals, Canadian newspapers, legal health, travel resources and periodicals for research.  You can also download audio and e-books from “Library-to-Go”.
Library users from across the province can use their home library card at any library in BC, including Fort Nelson through the BC One Card service.  Temporary cards are available at a cost to non-residents who want to take library items out on loan.
New upcoming programs include TED Talks, girls book club, Friday morning story time, and a monthly story and craft for children.  Come dressed in your costume for our Halloween story time on Sunday October 28th.  TED Talks will provide the opportunity for people to have discussions on a wide variety of topics.  Add your name to our interest list.
The library is open seven days a week except holidays.  Find us in the Municipal Square, or contact us in the following ways:
