Gunman sprayed with his own bear spray, taken into custody

At noon Tuesday police were called to the front of the Fort Nelson Secondary School to investigate a report of an assault.

An exchange of words between one female and three male students and two adults had escalated into a physical confrontation that led to one of the adults pulling a replica handgun (actually a pellet gun) and starting to fire it.

One youth pulled a bear spray from the pocket of one of the men and ran down the hill hoping to lure the men away from his friends. When this didn’t happen he returned to the area near the smoking pit and sprayed the man with his own bear spray.

The police arrived and took several people into custody. They also retrieved a large bundle of cash from one of the men, leading them to believe that this incident might be drug related.
The two adults are from Prince George and only recently arrived in Fort Nelson.

Police are contemplating charges of assault with a weapon and firearm offences.
The incident was witnessed by students and staff leaving the school for lunch.
