Obituary – Harold Roach, 62

November 9th, 1949 – November 22nd, 2011

On the evening of November 22nd, 2011, Harold lost his battle with cancer. He fought his illness like he lived his life; with enormous courage, fierce determination and a tremendous spirit. Affectionately known as “Quiko” he was born in Reserve Mines, NS the eldest child of the late Harry Linus and Theresa Elizabeth (MacNeil) Roach. He is survived by his children who were the most important aspect of his life, Shannon (Derek) Greenwell, Jay Roach, and Matthew (Jennifer) Roach. He was a proud Papa to his grandchildren, Harold Joseph ROACH, 62 of Fort Nelson, BC, (formerly Reserve Mines, NS) Aiden and Tristan Roach, Jessica Durie, Kyjah Roach and Morgan and Brooklyn Greenwell. His siblings, Brenda (Doug) Roper, Wayne (Marie) Roach, Wendell (Patricia) Roach, Arlene (Ronnie) Kelly and Donna (Troy) Roach. Also numerous nieces and nephews and his close friends, too many to mention. After a long career as a coal miner with Devco, he followed his passion and returned to school where he became an Addictions Counsellor. This career took him to Fort Nelson, BC, where he worked at the Fort Nelson Hospital with Mental Health and Addiction Services, for the last 10 years. He thrived in this role where he was patient with his clients and treated everyone with respect, he wanted to help people and make a difference which he highly achieved. From a very early age music was his life; he was an accomplished guitar player, singer and song writer. He implemented his love of music into his passion for volunteer work, as an organiser for a number of years for the Cancer Relay for Life and the Annual Food Follies fundraiser at the Phoenix Theatre. He was known to tell the best jokes, a beautiful cook and baker and had quite the sweet tooth. He was a youth soccer coach with Whitney Pier Soccer club for many seasons, which inspired his interest in youth sports. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in his name to No Kids Left Behind at the North Peace Savings and Credit Union, 5420 50th Ave North, Fort Nelson, BC V0C 1R0, Branch #3, transit # 16740. We cannot express enough how grateful we are to the doctors and especially the nursing staff of the Fort Nelson Hospital who went above and beyond to care for our Dad. Also the many friends who visited and offered support, we thank you so much. His deep compassion and concern for others stayed with him to his final days, when his main worry was not for himself, but for his family and the grief they would experience afterwards. Rest in peace Dad, knowing that we are all okay, because of the strength you nurtured in all of us.
